Choosing the Right BB Guns:
Are Air Pistols for You?
The design of BB guns
was meant to
facilitate their use in situations where the individual would not want
serious power, but something a bit less destructive. Air pistols are a
great choice. The momentum in these BB guns is caused by bursts of
compressed air or the release of a coiled spring. The basic ammunition for air pistols is the .177 caliber
round projectile (BBs). These are lightweight and do not cause
excessive damage to the target. What this means is that you can
practice shooting your weapon (at short range) with a realistic feel,
but without the cost or destruction associated with a traditional
firearm.
When shopping for BB guns to find
the one that is right for you, it is important that you know what you
plan to do with the airgun. For example, you might want to look at air
pistols if you are only interested in target shooting or killing
small pests at close range (100 feet or less).
You can have just as much fun
searching for BB guns as shooting them. There is such a wide range of
air pistols available that it will probably take some time for you to
sift through everything and make a choice. The replica models are
especially enticing. Basically, they range from the classic revolver to
those that resemble weapons used by the military during wartime
(Colt .45 1911 ,
various BB machine guns ).
BB guns are extremely popular and
there are numerous vendors from which to buy. Spend a bit
of time researching companies and what they have to offer in the way
of air pistols. There are
sometimes vast differences between dealers, prices, and quality. You
will need to spend some time to find the best deals. Take stock of
what you want the airgun for. That will help you narrow the choices.
