Guns, Ammo & Accessories
Pellet guns, BB guns, and airsoft guns are three
distinct forms of air guns that are legal to own in most places in the
United States. The basic difference between them can be summed up in a
word: ammo. Each type of gun fires a specific type of projectile. Each
type is designed for different purposes, from tin can and target
practice (metal BB Guns), to varmint hunting and longer range targeting
(metal pellets), to war game simulations and backyard fun (airsoft
plastic pellets).
We sell a variety of air guns and accessories. No matter
what you're looking for - pellet rifles, pellet pistols, BB rifles, BB

Pellet Guns for Pest Killing & Small Game Hunting
A pellet gun has many uses, from fun to serious. When
it comes to the more serious uses, pellet guns are favored by
homeowners, gardeners, and farmers to eliminate pesky varmint trouble. They project killing force at short to medium ranges. It makes
this type of air gun a good choice for eradicating troublesome critters
in and around the yard or farm, as well as hunting small game.
Here are some popular pellet guns
and BB Guns for hunting small
game or eliminating pests from your property. While you can get
the job done with a .177 caliber rifle if it is capable of producing
velocities in excess of 900 ft/sec, we highly recommend one of the .22
caliber air
guns. You will usually lose some muzzle velocity when you step up from
.177 to .22 caliber rifles, but the .22 pellets are heftier and provide a significantly bigger wallop,
ensuring a cleaner kill.
>>
Please be careful when choosing an air rifle for pest killing or
small game hunting. You do not want to leave an animal (even a pest)
merely injured and in pain. Using .22 caliber pellet guns that
produce high muzzle velocity (800 ft/sec or higher) will result in a
clean kill virtually every time, as long as your aim is true and you are
shooting from within the manufacturer's recommended distance range.

There are only a few .177 caliber pellet guns that should be used for
pest elimination or small game hunting. There are two important
things to keep in mind when using anything less than a .22 caliber air
rifle for these serious purposes. First, only use .177 guns that
produce muzzle velocities of 1000 ft/sec or higher. Second, use
pellets designed for hunting. A good example is the
Beeman Crow-Magnum which is a heavier hollow point pellet that
expands on contact. This helps ensure that well-aimed shots do not
simply injure the animal, but kill quickly (humanely).

Fun
Pellet Guns
Of course, pellet guns are also used for fun. Target
shooting and plinking tin cans are activities most boys (and lots of
girls) enjoy as they're growing up. Any type of pellet will work, as
long as you use the correct caliber. Here are the types of pellets that
most pellet gun owners like to use. Please note that the pictures
below are not to scale. Pellets are actually much smaller than
what is shown here.

BB Guns
|
|
BB guns can also be used for hunting very small game,
but their range is shorter and impact force less than with most pellet
guns. The most common uses for BB guns are target practice with paper,
cardboard, or tin can targets. Lots of us grew up learning to shoot a
rifle with inexpensive bb guns like the Daisy gun.
They make terrific starter bb guns for kids. Just be sure to provide adult
supervision until you've instilled good gun safety rules in the child.

Airsoft Guns
|
|
The most recent form of air gun are airsoft guns.
They fire lightweight plastic BBs, making them ideal for kids to use
around the yard without much fear of personal or property damage. But
these fun guns aren't just for kids! An increasingly popular 'weekend
warrior' sport has sprung up in recent years: airsoft war gaming.
Typically formed in teams of 3-20 individuals, leagues and clubs have
formed all over the country. They meet regularly to conduct large-scale
airsoft games in various settings. It's a lot of fun!
Compared to pellet guns and BB guns,
airsoft rifles
and
pistols
are significantly safer. They have a shorter range and muzzle velocity
(how fast the ammo is discharged). And, because the
pellets are made of plastic,
only point-blank impacts on bare skin, eyes, ears, nostrils, and other
sensitive areas of the body can do any real harm. Even so, basic gun
safety rules should always be enforced, whether it's your child horsing
around in the yard or you if you're part of a serious airsoft guns war games
league.
